FIRST AID TRAINING
Heartstart – ELS – FIRST AID BRONZE
Objective:
To provide people with basic Emergency Life Saving skills to deal with immediate life threatening situations
To provide a 3 hour training session covering:
a. What to do in the first instance
b. The signs and symptoms of heart attacks
c. Use of first aid equipment
d. Emergency Life Saving (ELS) – CPR and the ABC
e. Airway management
f. Recovery position
g. Choking
h. Dealing with serious bleeding
The training uses practical scenarios to enforce the theoretical inputs.
Course undertaken on client’s premises, or at Knight Support Head Quarters. Should training facilities need to be hired, hire costs to be paid directly by customer.
Minimum number of persons on course = 5
Maximum number of persons = 10
First Person On Scene (FPOS) - FIRST AID SILVER
Objective:
To provide selected persons with the necessary skills and experience to deal with being the First Person on Scene for any medical emergencies both in the home and outdoors.
To provide an 8 hour training session, plus a 2 hour practical session covering:
a. What injuries are likely to be encountered, including:
- Cardiac arrest
- Falls
- Cuts & Bruises
- Electric Shock
- Burns
- Choking
- Snake Bites
- Crush Injuries
b. Use of first aid equipment
c. Airways, Bleeding and Fractures
d. CPR (including, if purchased the bag & mask resuscitation equipment)
e. Airway management
f. Casualty handling, spinal management and the recovery position
g. Pre-hospital care
h. Personal safety
Each successful delegate is issued with a certificate that is valid for 12 months.
a. Re-certification available on an annual basis.
The training uses scenarios to enforce the theoretical inputs.
On completion of the 8 hour session a period of consolidation of around 2 weeks is taken before the 2 hour practical situational exercises are undertaken.

Safari/Medic First Responder - FIRST AID GOLD
Objective:
A 3 day First Aid course to provide selected persons with the necessary skills and experience to deal with medical emergencies – safaris, industrial and construction sites away from available medical services or where the processes require an immediate response by good medical responders.
Day 1:
Emergency Life Support
- ABC and the chain of survival
- CPR (adults and children)
- Signs and symptoms of:
- - Cardiac complaints
- - Lung infections
- - Hypo and hyper tension
- Dealing with cardiac conditions, stabilisation and treatment
- Hyperventilation
- Aspirin and oxygen
- Understanding defibrillation
- Safety and risk assessment
- Practical use of automatic external defibrillator on defibrillation manikin
- CPR/defibrillator Scenarios
Day 2:
Dealing with Trauma including:
- Neck and back injuries, stabilisation and transportation
- C Spine control with short extrication device and long board
- Dealing with severe bleeding and shock (including road accident)
- Fractures (both open and closed)
- -Gun shot wounds
- Eye injuries (foreign object in the eye and penetrating eye injury)
Day 3:
General aspects including:
- Snake Bites
- Burns
- Animal bites, etc.
- Choking
- Stings and poisonous insects and plants
- Food poisoning and stomach disorders – fluid replacement
Assessment
- Written assessment
- Oral assessment
- Practical scenario tests
Each successful (practical examination) delegate is issued with a certificate that is valid for 12 months.
